Alisa Welch believes that Eminem is the epitome of the zeitgeist right now. Exhibit A: "Though I'm not the first king of controversy/ I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley/ To do black music so selfishly/ And use it to get myself wealthy/ Hey! There's a concept that works." Oh, admit it. You love a wigga who makes your big ol' ass shake.

Sarah Thurmond's current Top Three Faves on TV: 1) Telemundo's trashtastic soap opera Celebridade. You don't need to know Spanish—or be able read Portuguese subtitles—to enjoy the cat fights between rivals Laura and Marie Clara. 2) Absolute Power originally aired on the BBC in 2003 and now showing on PBS stations, this series stars Stephen Fry (of pre-Hugh Laurie House fame) as the ethically-challenged head of a public relations firm. 3) New Jaguar XR commercial: This 30-second spot is blue steel hot! Anyone out there know the song?
Candice Owens is an actress, playwright and would-be singer/songwriter. She has a lifelong dream of being a zombie in a zombie movie. While reading the "Zeitgeist" section of 43things.com, she discovered that she is one of many people who have this dream. She is also one of the many people who would like to travel the world, go skydiving and learn to raise just one eyebrow.

Nicholas Kaufmann thinks renting Must Love Dogs does in fact mean you hate freedom, but he won't say that to your face at the video store he manages in his hometown of Brooklyn, NY. He'll wait until you're gone and then spend the rest of the day mocking you behind your back. Just like you've always
worried video store clerks do. Join the Nicholas Kaufmann zeitgeist by visiting him on the Web at nicholaskaufmann.com and seeing what else he does.

Kristin Gorski is immersed in toddler zeitgeist these days. In this spirit, water-worn pebbles are treasure, spontaneous meanderings are the best of times, and drivers of enormous, multi-wheeled vehicles are much-admired heroes.
Caitlin Leffel is a freelance writer and editor. While she didn't really know what the word "zeitgeist" meant before this issue, she thinks she's finally got the gist of it after writing this article. Now she tries to use it correctly in sentences, avoid being swept up in it, and, in her free time, works on the newspaper announcement for her wedding this summer. (See annabelle, issue 5.)
By day, Gigi Lamm sells scholarly books for a university press. By night she obsesses over America’s Next Top Model, Brokeback Mountain (the movie and the short story), back issues of The New Yorker, and novels by Jennifer Weiner, thus making her quite knowledgeable about—according to Meriam-Webster’s definition of Zeitgeist—“the intellectual, moral, and cultural climate of an era.” Or so she likes to think.   Wondering about these pictures? They are all things that start with the letter "z." Some are easy, but some are pretty out there. If you can identify them all, you could win a year's membership to annabelle's Pencil of the Month Club! Just e-mail your answers, smarty!

annabelle is:

annabelle magazine is a quarterly Web-based lifestyle magazine, dedicated to the proposition that we don't have to have a lot of money to have a fulfilled life. annabelle reflects the interests and whims of the editorial staff with contributions from emerging and established artists, musicians and writers.

annabelle subverts the expectation that old-fashioned ways have to be conservative. We are inspired by old stuff—in design and editorial content.

Our belief is that there are many lifestyles, and all people, plants, and pets have the right to be creative and to inspire others.
